The benefits of
Debridement
What is Debridement?
Debridement is a dental procedure that involves the thorough removal of heavy plaque and tartar buildup from your teeth and gums.
This treatment is necessary when there is excessive buildup that cannot be effectively addressed through routine cleanings alone. Debridement helps restore oral health by allowing for a more accurate dental examination and improving the condition of your gums and teeth.
When is Debridement Needed?
Debridement is typically recommended for patients who have gone an extended period without a dental cleaning, leading to severe plaque and tartar accumulation. This buildup can harden over time, making it difficult to clean your teeth properly and increasing the risk of gum disease, cavities, and other oral health issues. By removing the buildup, debridement allows us to assess your teeth and gums accurately and recommend further treatments if needed.
What to Expect During a Debridement Procedure
At 25 Devonshire Place, we use dental equipment such as ultrasonic scalers, to gently break down and remove large deposits of plaque and tartar from your teeth and gums.
This process may take longer than a standard cleaning due to the extent of the buildup. Depending on the severity of the accumulation, local anaesthesia may be used to ensure your comfort. Once the tartar is removed, your gums will have the chance to heal for a few days, and we can then perform a more thorough dental exam to assess any further treatment needs.
How Does Debridement Help You?
Debridement improves your oral health by creating a cleaner environment for your teeth and gums, reducing the risk of gum disease and tooth decay.
After the procedure, your gums will be less inflamed, and you’ll be able to maintain better oral hygiene moving forward. This treatment also allows us to provide you with a more accurate diagnosis and effective follow-up care.
At our practice, we make sure your debridement is performed with care and precision, ensuring a comfortable experience while taking an important step toward restoring your oral health. If you’ve noticed heavy tartar buildup, swollen gums, or haven’t had a cleaning in a while, debridement can help get your smile back on track.
