Dental veneers are thin slivers of porcelain that are attached over your natural teeth to mask minor imperfections such as small chips, cracks or stains. They are similar in concept to false fingernails, and can give your smile and your confidence a quick and easy boost without requiring too much preparatory work to your teeth.
As well as hiding stains from food, drink and habits such as smoking, porcelain veneers can also disguise small gaps and minor problems with tooth alignment when orthodontic treatment is not an option. If one tooth is slightly out of position, a veneer can sometimes be fitted to make it appear more in line with the others.
Veneers make your teeth look healthy and natural, and very little preparation is required of the teeth, meaning they retain their strength. They are most commonly used for the upper front teeth – those that show when you smile.
If you are interested in porcelain veneers, we will first see you for a consultation to check that this treatment is right for you, and will talk you through the procedure so you know what to expect. Veneers are tailor-made for each patient, so we will first gather all the information we need to make them for you. Your dentist will thoroughly examine your teeth, taking any x-rays and photographs as necessary, as well as taking impressions of your teeth.
Veneers are available in a range of shades, so we will carefully chose one that closely matches your natural teeth. Your veneers will be carefully made in our laboratory, and when they are ready you will be called back for a second appointment to have them fitted.
